The Ukrainian State Institute of Cultural Heritage together with the UNC ICOMOS and the Department of Architecture and Restoration of the Lviv Polytechnic National University organized and conducted an online scientific and practical seminar "Historical Cities of Ukraine - Problems of Research and Preservation" Historical cities belong to the category of "Historical settlements of Ukraine", which have preserved fully or partially their historical area with cultural heritage sites and, in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of 26.07.2001, No. 878, are included in the List of Historical Settlements of Ukraine. The Ukrainian State Institute of Cultural Heritage, realizing that all of them require a special architectural and urban planning approach for the protection and rational use of immovable cultural heritage, paid much attention to the development of historical and architectural reference plans defining the boundaries and modes of use of monument protection zones and historical areas in 2019-2020. Therefore, at the scientific and practical seminar, UDICS specialists and invited participants discussed topical issues of urban planning and monument protection activities: the state of provision of urban planning documentation for historical cities of Ukraine, the classification of historical cities, the need for legislative and regulatory changes, etc.
