Twenty-five years have passed since the publication of the first methodological manual on restoration technology. During this time, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine became the main body for the protection of cultural heritage, changes in the structure of the monument protection industry took place, and new regulatory documents appeared.

Ukraine has decided on the direction of its association with the European Union, so our restorers have gained access to the latest technological developments of leading European companies. There have been fundamental changes in technological processes, and new complexes of restoration materials have emerged that are now widely used in practice.

Over the past two decades, a new generation of restorers has had to work in difficult conditions, given the period of social restructuring in Ukraine, which has now been supplemented by quarantine measures. In the context of limited professional communication due to economic and social reasons, there is an urgent need to publish special methodological literature for the training of restoration specialists of the twenty-first century.

Unfortunately, during this period, the coryphaei of the Ukrainian restoration school passed away: People's Architects of Ukraine Ivan Mohytych and Oleh Hrauzhys, restoration architects M. Hovdenko, E. Lopushynska, E. Plamenytska, R. Vykova, I. Ivanchenko, V. Shevchenko, V. Korneeva, and others, who were also mentors for young professionals.

The world is making strides every day in improving the technology of monument preservation. A monument is a living organism that requires constant research and care. Technical and technological research of materials of architectural and archaeological monuments is the basis for professional care of the monument.

Therefore, the Ukrainian State Institute of Cultural Heritage decided to republish the Methodological Manual on the Technology of Restoration and Conservation of Cultural Heritage Monuments.

The publication was prepared by specialists from different regions of Ukraine of all generations of restorers, from veterans to younger people, who are now known for their active work in the field of cultural heritage protection in today's difficult conditions.

Editor-in-Chief: I. Prokopenko. Editorial board: M. Bevz, R. Hutsulyak, Y. Strelenko.

The book contains methodological recommendations on the restoration of architectural monuments, starting with the fundamental principles, complex scientific research and architectural and archaeological research works that precede the restoration of the monument, and ending with technological processes of conservation and restoration of monument elements: ancient masonry, roofing, plaster, facade and interior decoration, and their materials: wood, stone, ceramics, metal, etc. A separate section is devoted to the restoration of stained-glass windows, murals and mosaics.

The collection is intended for a wide range of specialists working in the field of preservation of architectural and archaeological monuments.
